Earlier this month, Pro Elite travelled to Salou, Spain, to compete in the Mare Nostrum Cup - widely regarded as the biggest youth football tournament in Europe. Six age groups made the trip. Every one of them came home with something to be proud of.
The tournament began with an opening ceremony that set the tone for what was ahead. Over the following four days, our players competed against sides from across Europe in conditions that tested them technically, physically, and mentally.
The U14s were the standout story of the tournament. Reigning JPL champions, they progressed through the group stage with a perfect record, reached the semi-finals with a dramatic last-minute winner, and ultimately finished fourth - their second consecutive year reaching that stage in the largest youth tournament on the continent. After three days and 350 minutes of football, fourth place in Europe is something they can hold onto for a long time.
Across the other age groups, the performances reflected what Pro Elite is all about. The U9s reached the quarter-finals after a last-minute winner from Connor in the playoff phase. The U19s finished their campaign with a well-earned win. The U11s, U13s, and U15s all competed hard against strong, well-organised opposition and showed the kind of determination you can't coach into a player.
Putting the results to one side, the trip was about more than football. It was about a group of young players and their families experiencing something together that most people never get to do. The memories made in Salou this week will last a lot longer than any scoreline.
Thank you to every player, parent, and member of staff who made the trip. We are proud of every single one of them.
